We recognise what a big decision choosing a new school is for parents and carers; at Scissett Middle School (SMS) we aim to provide as much support as possible in order that you choose the right school for your child and your family. The good news is you've got some fantastic schools to choose from in the local area, it goes without saying that we'd love your final choice to be SMS.

Unlike most schools, at SMS we have two points of entry to our school.

Year 6 - Most pupils join us in Year 6. The key dates for applying for a place in our Year 6 are the same as applying for a primary school place i.e. closing dates for applications in January, National offer day in April. This is the best time to apply for a place at our school.

Year 7 - We also have a second round of applications as part of the secondary school application process. This means if you were unsuccessful in securing a Year 6 place for your child, they may still be able to join us in Year 7. Most years, but not always, spaces become available at the end of Year 6 and pupils join us in Year 7. To apply for a place in year 7 you must submit an in-year application form (ICAF) to the school during the summer term of year 6. Please use the link below.

In-year - We also welcome 'in year' admissions. Please click here to find out how to apply for a place in-year

The school holds an annual open evening in mid October each year, this event will give you a real flavour of what our special and truly unique school has to offer. At SMS we are 'large enough to specialise, small enough to care'.

Families are also welcome to visit the school at any point during the school year, please contact the school office to arrange your visit.
